London’s Victoria and Albert Museum yesterday hosted a gala dinner to launch an exhibition of work by the late designer Alexander McQueen. Titled Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty, the exhibition opens to the public tomorrow, Saturday. The Victoria and Albert Museum is famed for its fashion exhibits, and this is set to be one of its biggest yet, featuring over 240 pieces of McQueen’s work.

Kate Moss is set to be one of the stars of the exhibition, which reportedly features a 3D holograph of the model. She was therefore one of the guests of honour at the gala dinner, where she wore a stunning black lace dress. The demure high neck, long sleeves and full-length skirt were dramatically contrasted by the completely sheer fabric. This was actually her own twist- the original dress (from Alexander McQueen Pre- Fall/Winter 2015) came with an under layer. Kate was accompanied by her husband, rock star Jamie Hince.

The most dramatic dress of the evening was certainly that worn by FKA twigs. She was dressed in one of the most iconic McQueen pieces ever – the bird of paradise dress from the Spring/Summer 2008 collection. With bold, vivid colours, an incredible print, and truly amazing eye-catching wings sprouting from the shoulders, this is an unforgettable dress. She completed the look with bright red lipstick and a braided hairstyle.

Salma Hayek wore another iconic Alexander McQueen collection – a strapless full-skirted dress featuring a delicate peacock design across the bodice and skirt, and layers of ruffled tulle.

Victoria Beckham, a close friend of current McQueen designer Sarah Burton, attended the event along with her husband, David Beckham. She wore a strapless black gown with cut-out details to the skirt making it a little more unusual than a simple black evening gown.

Like Kate, Poppy Delevigne also opted for sheer black lace, and unlike Kate, chose to go topless. As well as a daring sheer bodice, Poppy’s dress also featured unusual cut-out sleeves for an extra touch of glamour.

Will you be going to see the exhibition? What do you think of all of the Alexander McQueen designs on show here?
